The Hazeltine started with a commission from a father who wanted to give his son — a commercial fisherman in Alaska — a reason to sit down. The brief was simple: build something worthy of the rest he'd earned. The frame is solid walnut throughout, joined with loose tenons for both structural integrity and visual honesty. Brass details at the back adjustment points add warmth without ornamentation for its own sake. The adjustable back acknowledges that people sit differently, and a well-made chair should accommodate that. It's a piece designed around the idea that taking a break is something worth doing properly.
