Built on craft. Driven by collaboration.

Tilt Shift Design is a custom fabrication studio based in Bellingham, WA. We design and build architectural metalwork and woodwork for architects, builders, designers, and homeowners who want something that hasn't been built before.

Our Vision

To create pieces that outlast trends — objects and spaces defined by honest materials, precise execution, and genuine utility. We're building a studio recognized for the full range of what's possible when design capability and hands-on craft exist under the same roof. From feature stairs to kinetic sculpture, the goal is always the same: work that holds up under scrutiny and stands the test of time.

Our Mission

To work closely with architects, builders, and designers to fabricate custom metalwork and woodwork that elevates every project we touch. We show up as genuine collaborators — invested in the outcome, not just the scope. We bring ideas and expertise to every stage of the process, and we don't consider a project done until it's right.

Core Value

Craft is our culture. The standard we hold ourselves to runs through everything — every drawing, cut, weld, or joint. Every piece that leaves our shop is something we're proud to put our name on.

Our Story

Building something worth being proud of.

Tilt Shift Design was founded on the principle that a fabrication studio could bring genuine design capability to every project it touched. What started as a small shop in a garage has grown into a team of skilled fabricators, designers, and builders working together on some of the most interesting custom metalwork and woodwork in the Pacific Northwest.

We've built stairs, railings, sculptures, furniture, fireplaces, entry doors, and architectural elements for hospitality venues, commercial spaces, and high-end residences. Every project is different. Every project gets the same level of care.

What we're building toward.

Design-led fabrication — bringing architectural thinking to every scope, from a single furniture piece to a full commercial stair package.

Design-led fabrication — bringing architectural thinking to every scope, from a single furniture piece to a full office build out.

Kinetic and sculptural work — pushing into the most technically and artistically complex territory in custom fabrication.

A studio that runs on team ownership — building a business where great people do their best work and take real pride in the result.

Tim earned his BFA in Environmental Design and Masters in Architecture from Montana State University but veered off of the traditional architecture path to work with his hands. He worked in high end fabrication and furniture design studios in Montana and Washington before fouding Tilt Shift Design.

Kai brings over a decade of hands-on metalworking experience to Tilt Shift, having spent his career building technically demanding and visually distinctive work across the Pacific Northwest. He keeps production moving, quality high, and clients informed. Kai is the reason projects ship on time and land the way they were designed. His instincts in the shop are matched only by his eye for what makes a piece right.

Our team is a tight crew of skilled metalworkers, woodworkers, and designers who take real pride in what they build. Together, they bring experience spanning architectural metalwork, structural fabrication, fine woodwork, finish detailing, design, and drafting.
